Treatment Blepharitis
Treatment consists of daily eyelid hygiene with warm compresses and diluted baby shampoo to remove flakes and excess oil. Antibiotic ointments or drops may be prescribed by the ophthalmologist, and in persistent cases oral antibiotics may be necessary. Anti-inflammatory drops or ointments help reduce inflammation, and artificial tears relieve dry eyes.
During the first week of treatment, discharge and wound fluid may come from the eye. This is normal and can be gently removed with lukewarm water. With proper care, symptoms can usually be effectively controlled.
